Healing Literature - New Genre on the Rise
A new genre which is mostly associated with the asian literature and is currently on the rise - "healing literature".
The novels address burnout and escape from everyday stresses, they reflect pressures from work culture and offer gentle narratives of self-care which resonate so much with the society nowadays, especially korean and japanese ones.
Other than covering the before-mentioned aspects, these stories also offer a cozy and heart-warming settings such as libraries, coffee cafes, laundries, small towns, bookshops. The illustrations inside the books and on the covers are also just amazing and I bought several books just because of the names and pictures I totally fell in love with.
The essays are found "healing" since they promote emotional relief, life reflection, quiet comfort, reassurance, less drama and just pleasant vibes. At the same time they evoke some questions within yourself and may even help to motivate you or find the answers on the matters you haven't yet thought about but they had been troubling you somewhere deep inside.
My current list of the healing literature is:
- There’s No Such Thing as an Easy Job - Kikuko Tsumura
- Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop - Hwan Bo-reum
- What you are looking for is in the library - Michiko Aoyama
- Days at the Morisaki Bookshop - Satoshi Yagisawa (and More days at the Morisaki Bookshop)
- The convenience store by the sea - Sonoko Machida
